The Flop

I spent all day yesterday making bread. I started the night before making the leven. I mixed the dough at 8AM, let it rise for 8 hrs followed the directions to a T. But some how our bread never rose. It tasted great, the crust was crisp and crunchy but the end product was dense. Not sure what happened. But I will try again once I have all of the official equipment. I had to order a dutch oven double cooker to bake the bread. For the first attempt I borrowed a dutch oven from the neighbors. I have to say that my heart about sank when I opened the oven and saw that the bread did not rise after so many hours of work. I had to head on over to the store and pick up some bread before our dinner guests arrived. I hope the second attempt will be more satisfying!
The FLOP!

Here are some of my successes from yesterday.
I made Sashimi for Kevin for lunch
I made Ina's Tuna Salad as an appetizer for dinner. It was delicious! We had white bean chicken chili with all the fixin's, some corn bread (which I had to get last minute when my bread did not rise.) Dinner was fun. Good food, good wine and good friends.
