Virtue Feed and Grain

We recently had dinner with friends at a relatively new place in Old Town, Alexandria. Kevin and I had lunch here once before and liked the atmosphere and the food. Some friends were in town for the weekend and we somehow managed to find a time when we all could meet for dinner. We tried a variety of things from the menu but the lamb was my favorite! The laid back, casual atmosphere was perfect. They even have a Sunday pajama brunch where guests are encouraged to wear their PJs. I am sure we will be back for another great dinner soon.

An Oklahoma Girl in Colorado

My friend Ash from college met a beautiful girl named Laura. They fell in love and were married. I was lucky enough to be there to watch them share their vows. Although I have not been very good at keeping in touch the beauty of Facebook and the internet we can keep tabs on each other even when time and schedules do not allow. Laura recently started a blog. She is a teacher and sometimes shares the cute things her students say which always warms my heart. But the best part of her blog is that she shares some of her go to recipes. I am dying to try her Salsa recipe. It was actually through Laura that I first learned about the Pioneer Woman who I LOVE! I cannot wait to have time to make a huge batch of salsa. One of our favorite things to eat when there is nothing else in the house are quesadillas which means we go through jars of salsa weekly. I would love to at least be able to contribute the homemade salsa when the only thing for my man to eat is some melted cheese between tortillas. What can I say I am a doctor and it is pretty darn hard to be both a doctor and a housewife.  I hope you enjoy Laura's blog as much as I have!

Squash Soup!

I made this soup. It was so simple and tasted so good. The best part was I had all of the ingredients on hand except turmeric. I just left that out and it was still super tasty. I recommend you go a head and make yourself a big piping hot pot of this right now. I think it would go best with a nice hunk of Zingerman's Farm Bread.  This girl would not complain if a nice loaf showed up on our door step :)

The Wedding Venue!

Kevin and I will be married in 270 or so days in Royal Oak, Maryland at the Oaks! I may or may not look at the website daily and dream of the moments I get to spend dancing with my favorite people all night! Hope to see you in November! Bring your dancing shoes!

FoodGawker

I have a new found love. I am always looking for new recipes, especially quick, easy healthy ones that do not require 50 ingredients I do not have on hand. I stumbled upon FoodGawker today. I have many booked marked food blogs and this will certainly be a new favorite. I have already favorited a few recipes I cannot wait to try when time allows for something that is not microwaved. Take a peek and please share your favorite recipes.

I am really looking forward to making this pomegranate chicken. Looks delish!

A long adjourn

Residency has been all consuming. I am doing my best to keep my head above water with long hours. But the past 7 months have been some of the most incredible in my life. I have brought so many lives into this world. I truly feel like a doctor. But my life has become pretty one dimensional. My biggest motivator is sleep and pretty much nothing can motivate me to get out of bed or give up a moment of sleep when I finally make it to my bed - no friend, no food, no adventure is more important than sleep. My lowest moment this year was a cold, dark morning driving to the hospital, when I seriously was jealous of a homeless person I saw sleeping on the street. I think I may have genuinely considered stopping my car and getting out and laying on the ground next to him. I was that tired. Like I said. Low moment. Despite the intensity of my life there are many incredible moments. I get to be a part of making new families. I get to hold babies first. I get to announce on the rare occasion when the gender is a surprise if the new families life will be filled with blue or pink. My job is incredible and I am so lucky to be a part of such a special time in my patients lives. While I cannot promise to write often I will try to be a bit better about updating and finding time for some balance in my life.
